GlowText provides this Privacy Policy to inform you of our policies and procedures regarding the collection, use, disclosure and protection of information that apply to our Service, as well as your choices regarding the collection and use of information.

We take your privacy extremely seriously. Unlike many other highlighting tools, GlowText does not store, process, or have access to your highlighted content. All highlighting data remains exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.

We do not sell your personal data, email address, or any information on how you use GlowText to external parties. We also do not store users' browsing history or track the pages you visit.

2. LOCAL STORAGE OF HIGHLIGHTED CONTENT

GlowText operates fundamentally differently from other highlighting services:

  • All highlighted text and annotations are stored exclusively in your browser's local storage
  • Your highlights are never uploaded to our servers
  • We have no way to access, view, or analyze your highlighted content
  • Your highlights remain private to you and are only accessible on the device where they were created

This approach ensures maximum privacy but means that highlights are not synchronized between devices. We believe this trade-off significantly enhances your privacy.

3. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Account Information

To use GlowText's premium features, you need to sign in with a Google account. When you sign in, we receive only basic account information (email address and name) from Google. We store this information solely to:

  • Authenticate your access to premium features
  • Associate your subscription status with your account
  • Provide customer support when requested

We never combine this account information with any information about your highlighting activity, as this activity data is never transmitted to us.

Usage Analytics

We collect limited anonymous usage analytics to help us improve the Service. This information cannot identify you personally and includes:

  • Installation and uninstallation events
  • Feature usage (which features are used most often, without any content data)
  • Error reports (when the extension encounters technical problems)
  • General performance metrics

This data is completely separate from your highlighted content and contains no information about what you highlight or which websites you visit.

4. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Our Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information. If you are a parent or guardian and discover that your child under 13 has obtained an account on GlowText, please contact us so that we can delete the child's information.

5. SECURITY

GlowText is committed to protecting your information. Since we don't store your highlighted content, there is minimal risk of this sensitive data being exposed. For the limited account information we do store:

  • We use industry-standard security measures to protect your account information
  • We limit access to personal information to authorized employees who need it to operate the service
  • We regularly review our security practices to ensure they meet current best practices

However, please be aware that no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. YOUR CHOICES AND RIGHTS

You have control over your data with GlowText:

  • You can delete your account at any time by contacting us at support@glowtext.app
  • You can clear all your local highlighting data by clearing your browser's local storage
  • You can request a copy of the personal information we have about you (which is minimal, as described above)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have certain rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data.

7. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

GlowText reserves the right to make changes to this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to address changes to the law or regulatory changes or changes to functionality offered through the Service. The modified version of the Privacy Policy will be posted at https://glowtext.app/privacy or made available within the Service. Therefore you must check this Privacy Policy regularly for changes. If you do not agree to the modified Privacy Policy, you must stop using the Service. Your continued use of the Service after the modified Privacy Policy is posted will constitute your acceptance of the modified Privacy Policy.
